What Windows Service is this? Themes

If you have too many services in your system, your Windows XP machine will run slowly. You can disable them but before you do, it helps to know what you are disabling.

In this continuing series of posts, we look at a particular service and decide whether or not it’s needed for a functioning system.

In this post, we are looking at Themes

The Themes services provides the Windows XP user interface “skin” by allowing the application of visual themes to the running operating system. Themes can enhance the look and usability of an operating system by providing more visual cues then the stock Windows user interface.

The Graphical Start Menu represents a theme applied to the standard Windows XP start menu.

You can safely disable the Themes if you do not care about the extra visual elements in Windows XP. This can speed up the system performance because the operating system does not have to manage drawing the user interface.
