What Windows Service is this? Bonjour

If you have too many services in your system, your Windows XP machine will run slowly. You can disable them but before you do, it helps to know what you are disabling.

In this continuing series of posts, we look at a particular service and decide whether or not it’s needed for a functioning system.

Today we are looking at Bonjour.

Bonjour is a service written by Apple. It comes with iTunes. Bonjour, also known as zero-configuration networking, enables automatic discovery of computers, devices, and services on IP networks. Bonjour uses industry standard IP protocols to allow devices to automatically discover each other without the need to enter IP addresses or configure DNS servers.

What is it used for? It is primarily used in Windows to allow other iTunes connected PCs to share the iTunes music library.

You can disable this service if you only have one iTunes computer and do not intend to share music between PCs.

If you have any other services that you wish identified, let us know in the comments below.
